Pastor Christopher A. Rose, Lead Pastor of Sterling Church of the Nazarene.
Pastor Chris was born and raised in Wray, Colorado, a small town of about 2,000 people in the Northeast corner of the state. Pastor’s wife, Kim, was born and raised in Fort Morgan, Colorado. They met in the summer of 2007 while attending a college course together. They have three wonderful children together: Jordan, Autumn, and James.
As a family, they have grown up together in the church. Kim and Christ were both baptized on the same day in 2012 and first dedicated their ministries and lives to youth and children. Both have teaching degrees and began leading ministries at Wray Church of the Nazarene around 2014. Jordan, Autumn, and James all grew up in the Church of the Nazarene and have experienced all types of ministries with Chris and Kim alongside them, from Sunday School to Children’s Quizzing, to Caravan, and now even Youth Group.
Pastor Chris has a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (teacher focused) from Western Governors University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Leadership (pastor focused) from Nazarene Bible College. He was also deemed an Ordained Elder of the Church of the Nazarene in June of 2024 at the District Assembly.
Before being called to Sterling Church of the Nazarene, Pastor Chris served as an Associate Pastor at Wray Church of the Nazarene with the focus being Youth and Family Ministries. He led youth as NYI President and Youth Pastor for 8 years. Pastor Chris also taught Sunday School and led several different outreach ministries and fundraisers throughout this time.
Theology/Foundation-As followers of Christ we are asked to follow the two greatest commandments provided by Jesus. To love God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love and treat others as myself (Matthew 22:36-40). As pastors we are asked to help guide people to obey these two commandments as well (Hebrews 13:7, 17-19, 22-25). Therefore, there are specific goals, disciplines, tasks, and relationships that need to be grown in our pastoral ministry to fulfill the two greatest commandments.
Goals of Pastoral Ministry: Making disciples of ALL nations (Matthew 28:18-20, Romans 1:5)
All goals must begin from where Jesus provided the Great Commission to His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20. Here we are all provided with the main goal of any and all ministries is to make followers of Jesus Christ throughout the entire world. In Romans 1:5, Paul provides us with the purpose statement of why we are to go and make disciples of all nations.
Secondary Goals of Pastoral Ministry: To be a model of Jesus in order to provide and empower those that we are leading to do the work that God has provided (Ephesians 4:11-16). We are all called to a specific vocation provided by God. Although, part of the calling of a pastor is to help others achieve excellence in their own vocations. We are to serve others and not be served by others (Mark 10:45). A major part of pastoral ministry is to serve others by helping them with their vocation while achieving God’s will. Using ourselves and our own vocation we need to help those we are leading to be equipped with everything they need to thrive in their own vocations.
Personal Life, Setting the Example of Godliness: 1 Timothy 4:6-12, Luke 6:40
Most importantly we are called to set an example for all believers and followers of Christ using words, actions, faith, and love. Being Christlike or Godliness doesn’t happen individually, but takes place in a communal fashion. Every time we build a relationship with others provides the opportunity for transformation to take place in both ourselves and those that are being ministered to. When this transformation takes place then more connections with others takes place.
