Why is the tithe 10%?
The word "tithe" literally means a tenth. More importantly, that's the specific portion God commanded. He could have chosen any amount—like 5% or 20%—but He clearly set it at 10%.

Is it okay to round my tithe?
Absolutely. For example, if your gross paycheck is $2,989.52, rounding up to $300 is perfectly fine instead of calculating exactly $298.96.

Should I tithe on gross or net income?
On the gross. Your tithe is based on your total increase, even before taxes or deductions are taken (which the government claims as its share before you receive the funds).

Do I tithe only on salary, or on other increases too?
Tithe on all forms of increase—salary, gifts, inheritances, stock gains, or any other financial blessing.

When should I begin tithing?
Start the moment you desire to obey God, honor Him with your finances, receive His blessing, and join Him in His work.

I’m not tithing and feel I can’t afford it—what’s my first step?
-
Repent. Acknowledge to God that withholding His tithe is sin; ask for grace to trust and obey.
-
Commit to honor Him. Delaying obedience isn’t wise.
-
Live within your means. Cut expenses, downsize, or sell assets if needed.
-
Start small, but start. God honors steps of faith. Don’t settle into disobedience—keep progressing toward full obedience.

What’s the difference between tithing and offerings?
-
Tithe: Exactly 10%, given to your local church (as God directs).
-
Offering: Anything above the tithe, given freely to missions, building projects, people in need, or other Kingdom causes—never as a substitute for the tithe.

I’m in debt—should I pay it off before tithing?
No. Reducing debt matters, but not more than giving God what belongs to Him. See Malachi 3:6–11 for both the warning and the promise.

In-person or online giving?
Either works—it’s your preference. Online giving reduces administrative burden and gets funds into use faster. Note: both methods have costs (online fees vs. volunteer time). If giving online, use ACH (bank transfer) instead of debit/credit cards to minimize fees.

How do we practice tithing today?
-
Give money (not time or goods as a substitute).
-
Give first, not from leftovers.
-
Give to your local church—the one you’re actively partnered with in gospel ministry.
-
Give without restrictions (no earmarking).
-
Give every time you’re paid.
