Knowing Who I Am
I have always been inspired by John the Baptist. Jesus said of him “A prophet…, more than a prophet…, the one about whom it is written…, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Matthew 11:7-11.
John the Baptist lived in faith, obedience and humility. He knew why he was here on this earth, knew where his commission came from, he knew his place or position. He cherished his call but did not worship his call or himself.
Two of my favorite quotes of his are “He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.” John 1:27 and “He must become greater I must become less.” John 3:30. These two statements indicate how John lived his life, always bowed before God’s Son, always ready to move out of the way for God’s Son.
There is a sense in which we share the same mission as John for we are to introduce others to Christ and must move out of the way, so Christ can become the center of their delight. We have a great privilege from God to introduce others to Him.
There is a question we must ask ourselves: Am I willing to become less so that He may become more?
Be sensitive to the Lord’s leading.
Have a great day!
