Devotion #3 General Assembly
On Saturday night the 24th of June, 2017, Dr. Jerry Porter preached on “One Hope”, in continuing with our General Assembly Theme: “One Body, One Spirit, One Hope, One Lord, One Faith”.
Hope is important to all people even our children need hope. Dr. Woodie Stevens shared “85 percent of all Christians come to Christ between the ages of 4 and 14”, WOW!
Dr. Porter challenged us with this question “What is my hope?” He went on to share about many who have lost hope: “those who have suffered, been betrayed and been abandoned”. We need hope, individually and at national levels. He then talked about Paul’s shipwreck recorded in Acts 27, “even in our loss, our lives are in God’s hands, and Jesus is our only hope”. This hope we have begins with our Savior, Jesus and it must be shared! Dr. Porter said “Hope has a name,” “and it is Jesus!” Our hope is found in Jesus, He saves, sanctifies and sustains us.
Dr. Porter also reminded us to pray for workers for God’s mission while being a worker ourselves. Dr. Porter throughout his message highlighted the seven priorities of the Church of the Nazarene: Meaningful Worship; Theological Coherence; Passionate Evangelism: Intentional Discipleship; Church Development; Transitional Leadership; and Purposeful Compassion.
“If Jesus is the hope” and He is, “then we as the body of Christ are also hope for the world.” (Dr. Porter)
