Devotion #2 General Assembly

On Friday night the 23rd of June, 2017, Dr. David Graves preached on “One Spirit”. Our General Assembly Theme was “One Body, One Spirit, One Hope, One Lord, One Faith”. From Joel 2 and Acts 2 Dr. Graves reminded us of the promise of God to “pour out His Spirit on all people”. God can be trusted, He has proven His faithfulness. What God promises, He fulfills!

God does not pour out His Spirit for entertainment, He pours out His Spirit “empowering us to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.” God still wants to pour out His Spirit just as He did at Pentecost. God does not limit His Spirit to a select group of people but to “all who call on the name of the Lord”. God poured, and pours and will continue to pour out His Spirit! God does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, or social class, “God’s Spirit is for all of us!”

Our Nazarene youth are making a great difference; in fact one group of youth recently formed a Nazarene Church. The youth are not too young to do the work of the Kingdom. Some may feel they are too old to make a difference. There was a man who started a new church at 56 years old, it was called the Church of the Nazarene and his name was Phineas Bresee. God wants to “pour out His Spirit on all people”, “not only to save us but to fill us”. (These notes are gathered from the Daily Summary of the 29th General Assembly 6/24/17)

Are you filled with the Spirit? The Scriptures record the difference between Peter before He was filled with the Spirit and after (Pentecost, Acts 2). He needed the empowering, purifying presence of the Holy Spirit to live in and for Christ. We do too!

God Bless You!
